What does ‘anonymous bittorrent’ mean?
If you download torrents without a VPN or proxy, your IP address (which can easily identify you) is exposed to everyone torrenting the same file as you.
This means two things, first, you’re IP address won’t appear in the torrent swarm. Instead, your peers in the torrent swarm will see the IP address of your VPN server, not your computer. As a result, nobody downloading the torrent will know your true location or identity.
Second, a VPN allows you to encrypt all data between your computer and the VPN server. This prevents anybody from reading your data and seeing what you are downloading. Without a VPN, your internet provider can see every file you download. If you use a VPN, it encrypts all data, including torrent downloads, so even your internet provider cannot monitor your activity online.
Is an Anonymous VPN easy to set up?
It is incredibly easy to start using an anonymous VPN service. All the VPN providers we recommend on this site have easy-to-use software that allows you to connect to a VPN server with just a few clicks. No complicated setup is required. You can configure your router to connect to the VPN automatically, so every device on your network is protected.

If you’re looking for a simple VPN solution for bittorrent that is very fast and easy to use, we recommend IPVanish. Connecting to their 100+ VPN servers only takes 1-click and they have excellent technical support. IPVanish also keeps no logs or records of your VPN activity, giving you maximum privacy.
Are all VPN’s Good for Torrents?
No. All VPN’s are not created equal, and many are not good for downloading torrents. For starters, many VPN providers don’t allow torrents on their network.
Secondly, some VPN providers keep logs of your connections or activity for as long as 6 months. That’s why we recommend you choose a VPN that doesn’t keep logs if you want to download torrents.
Third, the VPN providers we recommend provide better security that other less respectable VPN’s. For example, some VPN’s don’t offer openVPN encryption (the industry standard and military grade).
Others just don’t work properly, and may tell you that you’re connected to the VPN server when in fact the connection has failed and your true IP address is completely exposed. This HUGE security flaw has occured in a number of other VPN providers that we have tested.
Is an anonymous VPN Expensive?
VPN services are not expensive at all. Some of the best VPN providers are also the most affordable. Our Favorite Cheap VPN (PIA) is only $3.33/month.
Other VPN providers cost slightly more, usually between $5 and $10 per month. For a better price, it’s always best to buy 1 year of VPN service at a time. Most VPN providers offer a big discount (30-50%) to buy 1 year of service.
